Day 58 of 365: February Playlist

For today I made a little playlist with songs that have been constantly on repeat in my iTunes in the month of February.

Day 48 of 365: Pancake Day

Today is Shrove Tuesday, or Pancake day and according to Wikipedia is "a day in February or March, preceding Ash Wednesday (the first day of Lent), which is celebrated in some countries by consuming pancakes". I don't really need a pancake day to make pancakes, but every excuse is good for pancakes (pancakes, pancakes, pancakes). However, Wikipedia says that today is celebrated by eating pancakes in some countries. What do others do? Well, we (in Slovenia) call this day "pustni torek" or just "pust" [pronounced as poost], where people dress up (like the world does at Halloween), eat a lot of doughnuts and kids go trick-or-treating. The purpose of the day is generally deporting winter into far far away land, although I'm not sure if it works everytime...
Anyway, today I spotted quite a few pancake recipes on Bloglovin' and everywhere else, so I thought I'd gather together a few that I found and look delicious. I have yet to decide which one I'll go and make.
First is Niomi's recipe, which is all, vegan, gluten free and refined sugar free. Not that I care about all that, but they look delicioussssss. Then here's another healthy recipe from makeupsavy. Everything seems to be healthy orientated around me these days, which is always a bonus. The selling point here for me are bananas in the recipe, because I haven't yet tried that. The third recipe that I'm tempted to try comes from lydiaelisemillen.com. It's gluten free and all, but the point is in coconut milk, that didn't cross my mind before.
Now I'm off to pay a visit to my kitchen and say hi to the pancake pan.

Day 47 of 365: Time To Clear Out the Clothes

There is a bunch of clothes I'm not wearing anymore and have been in bags and/or collecting dust somewhere in the house for quite some time now. I had the intention to get pictures of them taken and put up on the internet to sell some of them and take the others to charity, but never remembered to do so, or didn't have time when it did came across in my memory. But today I had nothing to do and I was sitting behind my computer, scrolling down my Bloglovin' feed (as per usual) when that light bulb above my head lit up. I have decided that today will be the day when I start sorting out old clothes. So I brought down the first bag, took everything out of the bag and took pictures of everything. Of course I almost started being all nostalgic - ooh I remember this shirt - but I managed to avoid that deadly loop of reminiscing with clothes scattered all over my bed.
Now all I have to do is put everything back to plastic bags, put the pictures on world wide web and take a few bags to charity and so on and so on... Wish me luck, because there is still a high possibility that those bags will now hibernate in a corner of my room for another few months.

Day 46 of 365: Intelligence

picture found on Google
I was watching TV the other day and came across this new (I say new, it's actually out for more than a year already) series. Now, I'm not really bothered by TV or movies, but sometimes along comes a series that gets my attention and then I'm hooked. The last one to do that was Castle (and I watched 6 seasons in two weeks, I know, that's weird), now it's Intelligence. The only problem I have is that I'm on episode 7 of 13, and CBS cancelled the show after the first season. Which I think is a shame, because it's really good. It's basically about an intelligence operative who has a microchip integrated in his brain and, like in every american show, is saving lives and country almost on a daily basis.
So at 7 episodes in I have 6 left and then I'm left with my imagination about what could happen next and anticipation of Castle's new episode on Monday.

Day 45 of 365: Favourite Five - Winter

It's February, it's still cold and there's still snow outside, therefore it's still winter. I usually get this feeling, that everyone treats December as winter and after new year everybody is in anticipation of spring. Which is weird, considering that winter only starts on 21st of December and lasts till 23rd of March or something. So right now we are still left with some chances for some more snow and cold temperatures. I'm not a really big fan of cold weather since I'm always feeling cold anyways, but I still hope (probably a bit optimistic) that a week or two of freezing temperatures will kill all the mosquitoes, so they won't be able to bug me during summer.
However, here are five of my favourite things when it comes to winter.

Day 44 of 365: A Song on Repeat #1

We all have those moments, when we can listen to one song on repeat for a day or two. It's not just me, right? Right?
I mean I'm capable of listening to the same song for a few days straight sometimes, I hope this doesn't make me too weird... However, the song above hasn't been on for a few days straight, but it has been probably the most played recently. What can I say, I love a bit of Kaiser Chiefs. With an amazing album out last year, they just released this single last month and I think I already knew all the words after two days or something. She's got me falling, eeooo...

Day 43 of 365: Argan Oil

First things first: I have quite dry skin, especially during winter, and stubborn skin at all times of the year. Meaning it'll break out with every change it goes through, may that be hormones or a new skincare product. That's why in past I abandoned most of skincare products I tried. No matter what I did, nothing seemed to be working or making things not worse. When I used cleanser, my skin broke out, if I used moisturiser my skin broke out and so on. Until last year, when I discovered a few products that actually don't make me want to burn my face after I use them. So with that thing sorted, the problem remaining was hormonal changes that still caused a few spots once a month. Then, around two or three weeks ago, I started using argan oil.

Day 42 of 365: Sunny Ljubljana in Winter Time

Today I had an hour to spare while in Ljubljana and I went for a little stroll around the city centre. The Sun was shining like crazy so it was also very warm and the time to take my sunglasses out came around again. Everything looked and felt like spring actually, except for all the snow on the ground, that seems determined to stay for a bit more and maybe wait for the next round some people are predicting for next week.

Day 41 of 365: VDM Cookies and Two Ingredient Cookies

You know the drill, I go to the kitchen and start baking before I even know it. If this'll keep going on for long enough, I'll eventually have my whole cook notebook up here. What do you know, maybe I should just make everything I find in my cook notebooks and post the results here. I do have two notebooks with recipes, one is the current one, that I fill with recipes of things I like making and is still too empty for my liking. The other one is probably about 10 years old, as I have written recipes in there that we made at cooking class in primary school. I think making food by the recipes of the latter would be kind of a trip down a memory lane, which is probably not a bad idea at all.

Day 40 of 365: Liebster Award

There's this thing, that's actually quite cute and I just found out about it yesterday. It's called Liebster award and I was nominated for it by the lovely Ellie at elliesjellies, thank you Ellie:) To avoid screwing up anything, I'll just copy and paste the purpose and the rules from her blog, I hope she doesn't mind:)

Day 39 of 365: Another End of a Week

It's been another pretty much uneventful week. Exam period is still a thing, so top left picture is still a standard view. This week I found all the colourful pens that were lying around my draws and pencil cases and put them together in another pencil case and in the reach of my hand to use more often. I plan to fill my journal with colours, so I'll actually look forward to using it daily and not just write in it sometimes and then forget about it most of the time.
The much used and loved product of the week title goes to OPI's Avoplex cuticle oil. It seems like the central heating dries out the air so much, that my nails would be kind of suffering without the oil these days. Although it can be a bit annoying to use, because you can't hold pens normally or just generally use your hands normally without the fear of getting oil onto everything that comes in contact with it, until it sinks in the skin. But until it helps and keeps my nails from major breaking I'll live with the side effect.
Final bullet of this weekends post is an album that I pulled off of a shelf again. The 2nd Law has been well loved in my iTunes library, but the awesome thing I forgot was in there is a DVD with the making of the album. The thing was, when I took the album with me and tried to play it in a car, I put in the DVD instead of CD and wondered why it didn't work... Only realised my mistake a few days later, when I tried to play the DVD in my computer and there was only the making of video on the drive. But I did watch that video about 10 times since then. Makes me want to do some work in a music studio more, with every time I watch it.

Day 38 of 365: 1010!

The other day I was browsing through Play store and came across a game. I'm not the biggest phone game enthusiast, but I like to try them, even if that's the only thing I do before I delete them from my phone. There were actually two games that kept me entertained for longer than a week, one is Solitaire (of course) and the other one was Candy Crush (that I gave up after three or so months). Now, there seems to be a new one that'll have me addicted, although it's a huuuge battery drainer (which makes me very sad). It's called 1010! Puzzle. Basically, you have blocks (Tetris shaped) to put on canvas, and destroy vertical and horizontal lines, while being careful, that the blocks don't fill the screen. It sounds a bit boring at the start, but I spent 30 minutes on the game in a blink of an eye.

Day 37 of 365: Snowed In

Snowed in? Not really. I think Ljubljana pulled a New York and made a huge panic about some snow storm, but I don't see any new snow outside today, which is kind of disappointing. There is still snow from the beginning of the week, but I was really hoping for a new shipment, since I don't have to go anywhere today and it would be lovely to watch a winter fairytale form inside of my warm house.
Although while I'm wishing for snow here, apparently some other parts of the country hope the weather would calm down a bit, as news sites are reporting strong wind and snowing especially south and south east of Slovenia, with all but northern borders of the country being closed. And when I checked the weather site with radar image of precipitation, it really seems like snow clouds are intentionally avoiding the capital city here.
But I do still have hope for some more snow, because I have every intention to build a snowman and an igloo in front of our house. Weather did you hear that? I hope you did.

Day 36 of 365: The Almighty Tea Tree Cream

Most of the creams on the market are made to help with one, two or maybe three things/problems. But not the Tea Tree cream from Just. This one is universal. Helps with everything. And by everything, I mean everything. You got sunburnt? Use Tea Tree cream and it will be gone in a day. Have a scar form a papercut or something? Tea Tree cream can heal that. Got a nasty spot that got under your skin and wont go away? Tea Tree cream can help with that also. There's not much else I can say about it, other than 'it's great!', because, well, it is. I can't imagine any other product that would help me with as many skin issues that this one. I think it's not the cheapest of products (and I can't for the life of me remember how much it costs), but whatever the price is, it's worth it.

Day 35 of 365: Favourite Five - Blogs

It became kind of a routine for me, to open my Bloglovin' every morning, with winter cappuccino in one hand and a Speculaas biscuit or two in the other and have a read through my blog feed. It's kind of like checking the news every morning, but with much more positive energy really. No updates on wars and financial crisis that we're still going through, which is quite refreshing. Today I thought I'd share five blogs, that I love reading the most.

1. ViviannaDoesMakeup - Let's start with the obvious one, I mean who doesn't love this girl? Her blog is primarily beauty related, but also has a bit of fashion and fitness and food incorporated in. I'm not a massive make-up person, as I mentioned in a previous post, but just love reading everything she writes, because her writing style just sucks you in. Although as far as I'm concerned, she could just post recipes all day long, because her brownies and chocolate cookies are amazing

2. Gh0stparties - This one is the most recent discovery. It was the appearance that first caught my eye and I spent hours flicking through blog posts.

3. Hello October - I think I first found Suzie on Youtube and came to her blog after that. She also has a lot of beauty featured on her blog, along everything else going on in life. I especially love her Sunday posts and Nala, her little puppy.

4. Niomi Smart - Niomi's blog is more of a life style blog and basically I want to be more like her with every post she posts.

5. Fifi McGee - This one is the cutest blog ever. I don't know what kind of description would do it justice, so I'll let you check out the blog now and make your own opinion.

Day 34 of 365: Sweet Treat

Here I am, in the kitchen again. This time I was making coconut/cocoa covered rum balls and chocolate truffles (I saw those on Youtube). So, if you want to make coconut balls, here's the deal: You take 460 g of ground Leibniz-Keks biscuits, put them in a bowl, then add 150 g of icing sugar and 50 g of cocoa powder. On a stove you melt 50 - 100 g of margarine (I usually do just 50 g) and add it to dry ingredients. Then you add 250 ml of single cream and finish with a few (around 4) tablespoons of rum. Then you mix everything into a thick cookie-like dough. If it's too dry, you can add a bit of milk. When that's done, you make small balls and roll them in coconut flour or cocoa powder and voila!

Day 33 of 365: A New Foundation

I have to say that I'm not really a make-up person. I didn't even look at mascara from afar for the first 16 years of my life. My mum has always been a defender of 'the least chemicals you put on your skin, the better' logic and the only make-up product she puts on is a lipstick, on a very rare occasion. And I, well I never really suffered because of that. The result is just me not wearing any make up for most of the time, not fearing appearing bare face in public and generally feeling really comfortable in my own skin. I did once hear someone say, when I was at beauticians, that foundation is actually important during winter, to protect your face from cold, and during summer, to protect you from sun burns. I don't know if that's actually true or not, but it kind of makes sense, so sometimes I convince myself it's good for my skin to actually make an effort and put some foundation on. (Also, that convincing part is easier, when I look in the mirror and realise I need to look a bit more presentable that day.) The only (I think it's the only) other make-up product I use more often is mascara, so I don't look like my eyes just woke up.
However, my passivity towards make-up means I just don't have many products at home. I had one foundation before and that was Bourjois 123 Perfect. It's good I guess, I didn't have anything to compare it to, until now. So here's a thing, which is quite a big deal for me, I bought a new foundation. Alright, it's another Bourjois, the Healthy Mix one. I tried it once, it feels different to the 123 Perfect. We shall see, how it works out. It does look like the 123 Perfect didn't really need the powder to set it, because it was quite dry in the first place. But Healthy Mix already feels like it will stay on my face better with some powder on top, so I bought a powder too. It's an All Matt Plus from Catrice. Says it's longlasting and ultra silky. Whatever that means...

Day 32 of 365: Six Things To Start Doing

While New year is considered as the big fresh start, I think every day could be that new beginning if you want to start or stop doing something. However, starts of months sound so much more appropriate for this, don't they? This year I decided to set myself some new goals or things to start doing every month, so I have something to think about and look forward to completing and I hope they will also help me not to forget about new year's resolutions. There won't be a constant number of things every month, sometimes there can be 10, other times there'll only be one or two, but I think it's important just to keep going with it and not give up.
So here are February's six things to start doing.

1. Start waking up earlier. While in high school I woke up at 6 am, every day, without or with minimal problems. I guess it was the routine of waking up at the same time every day that made it easier. When I started going to uni, my schedule became very various for each day, so some days I start at 8, some days at 12, or 9 and this resulted in waking up at different hour each day and making early mornings so much harder to handle. Last year, when I was retaking the first year, to pass 2 more subjects until I went into second year, I spent majority of time at home. So at some point in spring I made a decision and started waking up at 7.30 each day, so I had a bit more of the day than only afternoon and evening. Now I want to start that again. Because waking up earlier is only a dreading thought when you actually have to get your bum out of bed, but looks so much better once you're up and running.
